The Rite of Christian Initiation is a gradual process that takes place within the community of the faithful including periods for maturing in the faith as well as several steps which mark the progress in the faith journey.

First Period: Pre-Catechumenate (Inquiry)

A time for asking questions and for an introduction to Gospel values.  A time for initial conversion and to show an intention to enter into a relationship with God in Christ.

 First Step: Rite of Acceptance

This is a time to celebrate their initial conversion and assembling publicly for the first time, it’s a public declaration and the Church accepts the person who intends to become member.

 Second Period: Catechumenate

This is a period long enough for the person’s conversion and faith to  become strong.  Minimal time is one year and up to four years to gain maturity.

 Second Step: Rite of Election

This step closed the period of the Catechumenate.  Usually coincides with the beginning of Lent with final preparation of the Sacraments of Initiation
